LUKLA, Nepal -- The CEOP Station of Lukla, in the Khumbu valley is operative. Giampietro Verza,  Ev-K²-CNR technician stations, has given us the good news directly from the Nepal today. The CEOP monitoring net stations, represents the first in the SHARE project, the technological challenge of Ev-K²-CNR about climatic monitoring at high altitude.

The CEOP (Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period) - http://www.ceop.net, is a project developed in the within of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), now become part of the GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment), a program of the WCRP (World Climate Research Programme) for understanding the atmospheric circulation and for studying the interaction between aerosol and water cycle.

“The net of 5 stations -  tells dr. Gianni Tartari, coordinator of SHARE project and  president of Scientific Counsil of the Ev-K²-CNR Committee - that operates in the Khumbu, constitutes one of the longest measurement series of the Himalayas-Karakorum."

"Completed in the 2003 CEOP/Ev-K²-CNR net represents, united to Syangboche, the group of Himalaya CEOP stations, that studies the behaviour of the Indian monsoon in the interaction with the Himalayana chain (in the photo). The  CEOP Net is formed by 36 stations, situated in an immense area characterized by a various climatic regimes, from the Arctic climate to the tropical one, continues Gianni Tartari.

"The Lukla station -  asserts Tartari - has given endured electronic problems. Elisa Vuillermoz and Gianpietro Verza, currently in mission in Nepal, have assiduously worked in this station two years for discovering and repairing the damages. ".

"The good news, that now the Lukla Station is operative, represents, therefore, an ulterior succes of the technological abilities of Ev-K²-CNR Committee and also a new contribution for the Phase 2 of CEOP plan, will be presented in Washington DC, USA, the next month of March", concludes Gianni Tartari.
